Welding Technology

A certificate in Welding Technology provides training in conceptual and technical skills for gainful employment in the welding field. Emphasis is placed on preparation for AWS (American Welding Society) Certification, employment, and/or completion of an associate degree.

NOTE: This program requires that recipients file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and be eligible for Title IV financial aid. The Workforce Ready Grant is not based on family income. 

Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc (GTAW) / TIG

This training program provides the study and hands on skills of welding metal. Related areas covered are tools and equipment safety, Theory of the welding process, equipment set-up. A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to join or cut metal surfaces. Includes instruction in arc welding, resistance welding, brazing and soldering, cutting, high-energy beam welding and cutting, solid state welding, ferrous and non-ferrous materials, oxidation-reduction reactions, welding metallurgy, welding processes and heat treating, structural design, safety, and applicable codes and standards.

Structural Welding

Ivy Tech’s Industrial Technology program will provide high quality training and develop skills in the area of Industrial Technology. From welding classes to learning about fluid power systems, the hands-on objectives in this program will have students qualified to enter the workforce. We use only the current and emerging technologies in the industry while training. Our business and industrial partners have helped us for the curriculum to meet the demands of the ever-changing work environment. Completion of the Structural Welding Certificate leads to preparation for American Welding Society (AWS) Certifications, employment, and/or completion of an associate degree.

Welding, SMAW (STICK)

This course will teach you the basics of Shielded Metal Arc Welding, proper safety, blueprint reading, and equipment operations. This course is taught in both the classroom environment as well as hands on in our welding shop. While the majority of your time will be hands on, in the shop, the classroom instruction is equally important in general knowledge of the welding field, especially for individuals pursuing welding as a career.

Structural Welding, SMAW & GMAW

A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to join or cut metal surfaces. Individuals will receive training and be tested in the following subject areas: Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding Advanced and Oxyacetylene fuel cutting. You also develop entry level skills needed to obtain certification as a Structural Welder and Gas Metal Arc Welder. Upon successful completion of this program, the student will have passed at up to 15 tests as well as visual, guided bend tests. All certifications will be proctored by a third-party Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) which will be held on a Saturday, passing of these tests will earn you the AWS certification.

Manufacturing, Skills for Success

The Manufacturing Skills for Success program is a ten-day workshop series is to prepare you for a career in manufacturing. You will learn a wide variety of skills relevant to manufacturing through various methods, including hands-on activities and discussions. Courses are led by facilitators who have extensive experience in manufacturing. This program prepares individuals new to manufacturing or the workforce, individuals seeking work, may serve as additional new-hire training, or as a way for individuals to update their workplace skills. This training provides a Purdue University Certificate of Learning, MSSC Certified Production Technician Quality Certificate, and an OSHA 10 certification.

Right Skills NOW CNC Machining

The Right Skills NOW – CNC Machining CPC Certificate will offer high quality training that focuses on bridging the advanced manufacturing skills gap. Students receive 6 to 8 National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) credentials and become well-trained entry level CNC Machinists with upward mobility potential.

The program content is designed to develop competency in the comprehension of general and technical skills. This program includes courses in lean manufacturing, metrology, statistical process control, and ISO/QS International Standards.

Production Management

Indiana Tech’s Production Management Certificate provides students with the knowledge and skills required to plan, budget and monitor a plant’s production. Topics include management theory and practice, design of production systems, safety programs in work settings, human behavior and motivation, project management and project planning techniques and systems.
